Third Graders are Unbe-WEAVE-able! Part 1

Every year the third graders learn how to weave in art class, to support their classroom spring social studies unit. I find that starting off with a paper weaving is less intimidating for the students, and yields a really beautiful project. After discussing the basic concepts behind weaving, and talking about the tools and materials needed to begin, I provide each student with a fringe of black paper to serve as their paper loom. Each student is responsible for cutting the strands of paper that will be woven together. Here are some of the beautiful weavings that have been completed so far.
